► Chromeo / DJ_KiCKS Re(Mix) – (electro-funk) / Released 10/13/09
Steeped in a heavy cloak of 80’s disco, funk, soul and R&B, Montreal-duo, Chromeo (Dave-1 and P-Thugg) has finally released the full-length DJ mix series, DJ KiCKS Re(Mix). The LP not only covers the first single, the Eagles soft-rock classic “I Can’t Tell You Why” (which I spoke about last review) but there’s an unabashedly French-Canadian disco-house theme throughout the album. Most of the artists highlighted are people Dave and P (myself included) heard as kids: people such as Pierre Perpall (“J’aime danser avec toi.”), Toba (“Moving Up”) and Lovelock (“Maybe Tonight). A definite addition to any funk-fan’s music collection.

► Miguel Migs / Dubs & Re-Rubs – (deep house/tech house) / Released 10/6/09
Not only is Bay-Area DJ-producer-multi-intrumentalist Miguel Migs one of my most favorite DJs, but having heard one of his live DJ sets a few years ago, he propelled me on this journey towards music writing and closet-DJing. (Hey, you gotta start somewhere). For those who are still in the closet, Dubs & Re-ReRubs (Salted Music) is classic Migs: soulful, funky, disco-ey, dub-induced deep house that will get you rockin’. Fave tracks: “Sometime” and “808.” Heavy basslines and funky grooves…need I say more?
