Don Pedro makes no apologies for being unlike your typical mod Williamsburg haunts. Gritty and loving it, this Brooklyn music venue/eatery fully embraces the well-worn characteristics that keep it hovering that thin line between the adjectives frequently describing it as rustic and downright dive-bar chic.
No, no, no, this Old New York venue doesn’t serve up fancy drinks, or false pretenses about what it is, or who it caters to, but you will love Don Pedro anyway, for Don Pedro will make it so.

Sure, it could clean itself up a bit, maybe take down the gig posters and corona bottle chandelier, add some trendy martini to its drink list, but where’s the fun in that? Instead, it would rather focus its efforts on what it’s known for: round after round of whiskey drinks and night after night of good indie music. (Their ‘Rot Gut Special’ is a PBR and well whiskey concoction that sounds like the most enticing instant hangover one could imagine)
By day, Don Pedro operates as a Spanish restaurant and cooks up Ecuadorian food, most famous of which is their ‘best in town’ ceviche, or seafood cocktails. By night, the establishment’s backroom sets the stage for an eclectic roster of live music; from garage punk, metal, rap, to indie, rockabilly, pyschobilly and funk.

About six years ago, the venue was only host to regular Spanish and Reggaeton club nights, but that quickly changed when Crypt Records opened a record store in the neighborhood and the Black Lipps came to town and performed at Don Pedro, thus launching the venue’s reputation as a regular host to the indie rock music scene. Notable acts who have graced the stage at Don Pedro include; The Slits, Human Eye, Crystal Stilts and Vivian Girls.
As far as sound and acoustics go, the intimate stage room is lined in bricks, which according to your particular musical tastes has the power to make music sound either crisp and amazing, or rough and echo like crazy.
Don Pedro has a lot of great bands lined up to perform throughout the month of October. Its annual Halloween show is a definite ‘don’t miss’ when 25 bands each pick a band to cover and perform as them in full costume.
