the best underground shop spot is this pakistani alleyway market place that sells everything from pipes and jewlery to whole grains. It’s in flatbush and it’s fresh as hell.
For those that don’t know, life DOES exist outside the Brook, and it flocks to Woodbury Commons up the thruway. Polos glasses big screen TVs under armour watches and sausage and peppers–all at 40% off the lowest ticketed price. The only thing you can’t find is a parking space.
Check out the flea market on the corner of 10th street and Ave A – open most weekends all summer and fall. It’s in a big parking lot and you can find almost anything your heart desires – last summer I picked up a bike, cufflinks, some used CD’s and 2 used MOMA design store items for $30. All the vendors are locals who’re happy to talk to you about literally anything, and the prices are always negotiable. Score.
For the 9 to 5′rs Century 21 (the clothing store, not the realtor) is the ill na na. Badass work clothes for cheap.
I like the stock market
Sahadi’s in Brooklyn Heights on Atlantic between Clinton & Court – Middle Eastern food market. Fresh tobouli, hummus, babba ghanush and barrels of cheap dry goods like nuts, spices and dried fruits. Actually there are a few similar places on the same block but Sahadi’s is king of the situation.
rulad’s herb market in park slope!! it will take you back in time
