I’m feeling worldly this Sunday morning after taking in some Brazilian rock last night with a host of eclectic and attractive people. To keep the beat moving, here are some notable tracks that passed through the QC inbox last week. Starting us off is a remix by Anglo-Brazilian chanteuse Cibelle. Enjoy more music we didn’t post on (until now) volume 10.

Crammed is a label based in Brussels. For promotion sake, they released a free 13-track compilation featuring a mix of artists. Lonely Drifter Karen is a “piano-led pop trio” with a batch of European melodies that stimulate the ear. I love front woman Tanja Frinta’s claim that “riding a bicycle is one of my favorite moments to sing a song, walking is good too, and so is washing dishes..”

And since everyone on the Crammed label pretty much rocks, I had to include the Kasai Allstars in this sampler. It’s world music done right with tribal choruses that get you dancing. These dudes are from the F’n Congo. They don’t fuck around.

The Deep Dark Woods have a sound apropos of their name. Winter Hours is their sophomore release filled with simple and folksy melodies. The four piece sticks to guitar, bass, and drums but with Sufjanesque orchestration. They’ll be playing SxSw this year.

This track from East Hundred timewarps me back to the alt-rock late 90’s. They’re from Philly and play Trash Bar in Brooklyn March 14th. Nice production, an unoffensive sound, and a couple hooks mark the record. Singer Brooke Blair’s voice is also vastly relaxing.

The angels sigh reminds me of Dionysos.
Good stuff.
