Welcome to high school- a world defined by stereotypes, jumbled emotions, tired secrets, and a social hierarchy as merciless as standardized testing. And although memories of crowded hallways, football games, and cafeteria lunch tables are not the first we reach for in conversation, we have to admit that high school played a crucial role in our lives. It’s the place where we truly began to discover the twisted workings of humanity, the injustices of unrealized desires, and above all, the ecstasy and heartbreak of life.

For three days (Thursday, Dec. 4th-Saturday, December 6th), the United States Theatre Project delves into the complexities of the teenage mind and unmasks the truths that linger in high school hallways, with Columbinus.
Broken into two acts, the play provides a stirring portrayal of the Columbine High School Tragedy, in which Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris opened fire on their classmates. Through a series of internal monologues and character dialogues, the audience sees high school through the eyes of eight archetypal characters, bringing to surface those underlying identity struggles that plagued us all, and showcasing the ways in which these struggles can lead to disaster.
Nearly ten years have passed since the Columbine shootings made national headlines, leaving our world to question the motives behind Klebold and Harris’ actions, and the state of American High Schools. Through the moving and honest performances of this talented eight-member cast, Columbinus gets to the core of these questions by taking a look at what lies in the shadows of stereotype-the insecurities and vulnerabilities, the hopes and dreams, and most importantly, the heart.
