ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME ANNEX NOW OPEN

I take it that you are all aware of the renowned Rock & Roll Hall of Fame that resides in Cleveland, Ohio. This mother of rock history and memorabilia has given birth to an annex museum and sent it to the big apple. Now present on the streets of SoHo (76 Mercer St. to be exact), this NYC Annex Museum is open for business.

Artist: Jimi Hendrix
Song: Room Full of Mirrors

Similar to its original, this museum will take you on an interactive journey as you pay tribute to the greats. Museum goers will be able to observe the pivotal moments of legendary careers and check out tons of items and artifacts, ranging from a necklace belonging to Jimi Hendrix to a handwritten poem by Jim Morrison.

The tour is approximately ninety minutes long and tourists will be equipped with a handy pair of headphones that will provide the proper music depending on which exhibit is currently viewing. This new museum has its own little twist; A New York Rocks exhibit. This gallery focuses on the essential artists and locations of the integral New York Rock scene.

I will leave no personal opinion on this one since I have not yet checked it out. However, I’ve heard a lot of complaints about the price. ($26 entrance fee compared to the $22 admission in Cleveland). Some have welcomed it and some have yelled things like “Go home you Midwestern bureaucrats.” Judge it yourself, and if your interest is peaked than let there be rock. Oh, and be prepared America, The President of the Museum, Terry Stewart, claimed that more annexes are being considered.

[Editor's note: The Annex opened a special exhibit dedicated to The Clash on December 1st that will run through Spring 2009]

There is not much to do in Cleveland, unless you happen to be a fan of Cleveland Sports Teams, but the crown jewel for the city is definitely the original Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. A beautiful piece of architecture in it’s own right and filled with incredible history and an unbelieveable collection of memorabilia. Well worth the trip if you are a fan of music and a must see for anyone who finds themselves stuck in this town for some other reason.
