STATE BIRD PLAYS HARD TO GET

by goya fordy

Trying to find out about this band proved harder than normal as I tried to locate grains of biographical information within sentences such as “The pilgrim and the Indian, the last of their kind, one unfettered and proud, the other zealous and forgiven, come together to give thanks in a protestant fairytale.” My clouded mind winced and then relented in the realization that I may just love this band. I proceeded to find out they’re fairly well known and just played a Daytrotter session. Coby Hartzler and Jared Riblet form the core of State Bird. They’re a chill blend of jazzy-folk-indie-whatever. Think Beirut but with differing vocals. State Bird hails from Dover, Ohio and has released two albums so far: Mostly Ghostly and Marching Thru the Wilderness. I never thought I’d like a track called “I Saw the Light” not by Bat for Lashes. My itunes is confused.
