Another nifty collection of More Music, where we highlight some newly released material plus a few other songs that we may have bypassed upon first listen. We’ve got a wide array today bouncing from Beastie Boys mash-ups to some stellar female vocalists, but let’s kick it off with the song of the week. Bella Union shared the first single off the upcoming Beach House album titled Teen Dream. The track is titled “Norway” and serves as an eerie and exciting tease for the upcoming album which is expected to drop in early 2010.

► The Hood Internet - Chicago DJ duo The Hood Internet dropped its fourth mixtape earlier this month and truth be told it’s kind of been the bane of my existence since my one roommate started rocking this Grizzly Bear/Dead Prez mash. Please make him stop.

| ► Hank and Cupcakes Brooklyn duo Hank and Cupcakes put on an interesting live show. Cupcakes is the female half of the band rocking drums and vocals, while Hank rocks a heavy bass with lots of effects. They’ve been making a stir around BK and have at least another ten shows scheduled in NYC through the end of January. Check out the vid below to get a taste. |

► Future in Plastics - Local Brooklyn band the Future in Plastics are bringing back lady-fronted rock in the most wonderful way possible. Lead singer Coco exudes what it would be like to see Bettie Page singing 80s punk. The music is raw and scratches you in all the right places, and the show these guys put on is nothing short of a ruckus; you can see the sweat flying in all directions.

► Dragon Turtle - Almost chilling, but frankly, one of the more unique and interesting twists on Psychedelic-Folk-something in a long time. Dragon Turtle work together regardless of the fact that one lives in Brooklyn and one lives in PA. Their eerie, ambient-laden tunes conjure up visions of hidden forest nymphs and making love on lilypads in a psychedelic-calypso universe. Their newest album, Almanac just came out and is nothing short of beautiful.

► Beastie Boys Mashed - Double Check Your Head is definitely one of the better “whole album” mash-up attempts I’ve heard to date. As the title implies, DJ Max Tannone serves us a double helping of Beastie by taking two of their songs and blending the shit out of them. The concept works really well, especially because the group released a full album of amazing instrumentals (The In Sound From Way Out) that I’ve always thought was ripe for mashing. Download the full album here for free.

► The Ropes - Get a load of these folks. The Ropes have a whole lot of music going on for just 2 people. Fronted with the ethereal punk rock voice of Sharon Shy, they do New Wave Indie Rock as it should be done. They’re ending a tour now and will be playing a show at Trash Bar on December 2nd. Also, they’re offering their 2008 album What They Do For Fun for free online! I jumped on the chance and downloaded it, and I’m already excited for the next one to arrive.

► Eef Barzelay - I’ve always been a big fan of Clem Snide, and I want to start adding some great older tracks that are important despite limited success. So here’s a great throw-back track, “Numerology” from Eef Barzelay.
