► The Lips are back, and they aren’t fucking around. Reminiscent of their noisier, pre-Soft Bulletin hayday, the lead off track from their upcoming Embryonic is a jam and a half. They recently performed it on The Colbert Report, with Steve Drozd playing a combination guitar/guitarhero controller. There is no other band right now that thinks the way these guys do, and we should count our blessings that they’ve given us almost 25 years of their frame of mind.

► This is a well timed Pavement cover by Brooklyn trio Pet Ghost Project. With all the rage behind Pavement’s reunion show scheduled for September 2010 in Central Park, this track is making the rounds. PGP plays Webster Hall on October 8.

► After a brief stay on the Dead Bands list, the Think About Life trio has reunited for another musical go round. During the hiatus, silent badass Graham Van Pelt gained high esteem for his solo creation Miracle Fortress. The jury is still out on this new track titled “Sweet Sixteen.”
