►Felix da Housecat / He Was King – (electro/experimental) / Released Aug 25, 2009
Three years ago, had the chance to experience Felix da Housecat (Felix Stallings, Jr.) live at the Meridian in my hometown of Houston, and the things this man made the crowd do, should be illegal (and probably is). Aside from the various house and breakdancing going on, there were an assortment of clouds in the air from cigarettes to cigars to, let’s just say, other stuff. All I know, I left that venue feeling kind of light-headed. Shenanigans aside, He Was King (Nettwork Productions) is European dance, synth pop, techno and an ode to my man, Prince, all wrapped into a highly-infectious 46-minute package. Be careful with the rave joints “Elvi$” and “LA Ravers,” you may find yourself dancing around the house naked. Oh, BK get ready, he’s invading 213 North 8th St, Sept 12 at 8pm.

► The SA-RA Creative Partners / Nuclear Evolution (electro/R&B) / Released Jun 23, 2009
A Sa-Ra production was one of my first reviews (that never got published); nonetheless, Nuclear Evolution: The Age of Love (Ubiquity) is all about love, growth, and our ever-changing world but served up in bugged-out way. With inner-galactic production, sexy female vocals, witty lyrics, and a flash-forward style, Sa-Ra Creative Partners (Om’Mas Keith, Taz Arnold and Shafiq Husayn) will blast off even further with this release. Any indication of how much I dig Nuclear Evolution, my faves are: “Gemini’s Rising” feat. Rozzi Daime, “Traffika,” “Dirty Beauty” feat. Erykah Badu, “I Swear” feat. Noni Limar, “Souls Brother,” “Bitch Baby,” “Love Czars,” and “Can I Get U Hi?”
To be honest, I can appreciate talented female vocals on an all-male package. Wait, that doesn’t sound right!

► Ras G / Brotha from Anotha Planet (experimental/hiphop / Released April 7, 2009
LA-based Ras G’s Brotha from Anotha Planet (Brainfeeder/Alpha Pup) is a mad descent into psychedelic confusion. A hip hop instrumental awakening. A space-age time capsule of beats and chants about “Earthly Matters,” “Dishwater,” “Sun Behind The Clouds” and “Astrohood.” For the love of our planet…descend with him.
