CHILL ON THE HILL

by cheryl santa maria reporting from toronto

The good folks at Nestea will be defying the laws of nature this Saturday and QC will be there with a live report. Three hundred pound blocks are going to be chipped up to create fine flakes of snow which will then be used to cover one of the runs at the Glen Eden Ski Resort in Milton, Ontario Canada.  Snowboarding demos and a boarding competition will ensue. I’m curious to see how this will all pan out, especially considering the weather we’ve been having.  Today’s temperature is 30°C (86°F) and they’re predicting similar temps for the weekend.  I guess they’re going to need a whole lotta snow.

In addition to the snowboarding shenanigans, the (FREE) all day event will feature workshops, a beach party and performances from The Stills and Hot Hot Heat.

Judging by the schedule, it’s going to be a busy day:

10 am: Chill on the Hill Glen Eden starts
10am-4pm: Volleyball Courts Open
10am-4pm: SnowPark Open
10am-4pm: InteractiviTEA Tent Open
11:30am-12pm
: Meet & Greet with Olympic Snowboarders (COTH Tent)
12pm-1pm: Tricks Competition (SnowPark)
1pm-2pm: The Stills play (Mainstage)
3pm-3:30pm: Meet & Greet with Hot Hot Heat (COTH Tent)
4pm-5pm: Hot Hot Heat play (Mainstage)
5pm: Chill on the Hill Eden closes

Seeing as the event has been heavily advertised on the interwebs and on major radio stations, I suspect that the park is going to be jammed.  If you plan on attending, aim to get there early.

This is the third installment of the Canadian Chill on the Hill event series.  The first featured a performance by The Sam Roberts Band and was held at Mont Tremblant Resort in Montreal, Quebec on June 20.  The second event was in Whistler, B.C. on July 25.

I’m super-excited to see The Stills and Hot Hot Heat perform but I’m a little disappointed that Sam Roberts and Co. won’t be coming to Glen Eden.  I guess my diabolical plan to kidnap Mr. Roberts is going to have to be put on hold a little while longer.

For those of you who won’t be able to make it out to Glen Eden, fear not.  Quiet Color will be there, lurking behind the curtains and sneaking up on the musicians.

Check back next week for behind-the-scenes photographs.
