If there’s one thing holding the brooklyn music scene together right now, it’s probably the uptick in semi-legal, DIY, house-party venues popping up all over the map. The new Shea Stadium, which is cleverly and ironically named for that fallen Bastian of baseball, is just one such venue. But unlike it’s contemporaries (Dead Herring, Market Hotel, etc) Shea Stadium adds a twist. The shows presented are recorded live on professional sound equipment, to be posted on their Web site. It’s a sort of brooklyn DIY Daytrotter, except with a live audience. This weekend, Shea Stadium has two shows. On Friday night, the first evening off the Hillstock Festival will be taking place (moved inside on account of projected rain.) On Saturday night, Kittens Ablaze, Coyote Eyes, QC band Shark? and Eyes of Mars will be giving it a go. It’s a cool concept for a Venue, and it’ll be interesting to see how it grows over time.
