INDIE NEWS REEL: WKEND EDITION 4/18

by charles poladian

Springtime is hitting the Indie News Reel this weekend. It’s going to beautiful outside, so we are all looking forward to spending some beautiful days together. This weekend promises some great things, and this Reel should provide fodder to get the party starting. Also a special treat, two songs from Lissy Trullie. First is the remix for Hot Chip’s “Ready for the Floor” and the title from the EP Self-Taught Learner. We also have songs from Jarvis Cocker, Sunset Rubdown, and King Khan and the Shrines. Let’s get this thing rolling!

Artist: Lissy Trullie
Song: Ready for the Floor (Hot Chip Cover)
Artist: Lissy Trullie
Song: Self Taught Learner
Artist: Sunset Rubdown
Song: Idiot Heart

The Harlem Shakes – “Strictly Game”

The Harlem Shakes’ debut album, Technicolor Health, is a blast of energy. Breezy pop with a Brooklyn sensibility, it’s a perfectly crafted for the spring and upcoming summer. Check out their live performance of the standout “Strictly Game”. Hooray for optimism!

French Kicks – “Abandon”

It seems like forever ago when French Kicks hit the Brooklyn scene.  Well, guess what, they are still kicking around and have that catchy as hell sound that’s instantly recognizable. Here’s the video for “Abandon”, from 2008’s Swimming.

The Breeders – “Fate to Fatal”

Who let The Breeders onto the Roller Derby team? Whoever they are, we need to thank them. The Breeders are causing all sorts of mayhem on four wheels and the Breeders are killing it.

M. Ward – “Rave On”

M. Ward is more than just the other half of She & Him.  M. Ward’s songwriting and craft shine on his album, Hold Time, and his latest video for “Rave On” is full of stop motion fun including a cameo by Zooey Deschanel.  Not quite the rave you expect, but soothing and beautiful nonetheless. Hooray for that special feeling!

PJPJ – “Junk”

The premise for the $99 music video series is easy, with a tight budget and a tight deadline get as creative as you can be.  Project Jenny, Project Jan offers up “Junk”, from their great EP The Colors.  This song is all over the place and you have to love that.
