RAY GUNS ARE NOT JUST THE FUTURE

After becoming mildly obsessed with their self-titled debut from 2007, I was both excited and relieved when I heard The Bird And The Bee would be releasing a new full length early this year. Ray Guns… is a beautifully constructed and orchestrated album, which includes Inara George’s lush and radiant vocals alongside Greg Kurstin’s highly-detailed instrumentation.

Artist: The Bird and the Bee
Song: polite dance song

..

The album really picks up with the song, “Lover Lettter To Japan.” From there on, the next few songs are even catchier, including “Polite Dance Song,” which was previously released in 2007. The middle of the album is where Kurstin’s instrumentation and beat-making really stand out. Though beautiful and appealing throughout the entire album, tracks six through eleven are filled with catchy hooks and head-bopping-leg-shaking drum beats.

Ray Guns Are Not Just The Future is not another sophomore-slump release. It has the feel of their self-titled record, reminiscent of 60’s pop and jazz mixed with sophisticated electro-pop while further expanding their original sound. The Bird And The Bee will be going on tour soon, making a stop in New York City on March 7th at Zankel Hall, which is part of Carnegie Hall. You can grab tickets here.
