IMPATIENTLY WAITING FOR THE METRIC DISC

Metric is in my top 3 favorite bands based on my relative perception of music combined with my life experiences, but the wait for the new record is becoming unbearable. Its been three years of waiting for the new album, pacified throughout the duration with one and a half solo releases by Emily Haines, a slew of live performances, and a couple advanced leaks off the upcoming album. Now this record is on the brink of dropping and I’m getting nervous. I want to love this shit so F’n bad that I’m building a bridge between my expectations and reality.

Artist: Metric
Song: Help I’m Alive

..

Gimme Sympathy” is already a classic in my mind based solely on the live Coachella recording last April. “Help I’m Alive” was released in November as part of a mini tour for charity and in promotion of the upcoming ‘09 release, but the official release date remains in limbo and people (me) are getting restless.

Truth be told, you just can’t fuck with an Emily Haines lyric. They are selfish truths wrapped in blunts of allegory. Her tone remedies any disconnect, and the melody lulls you into infatuation. Metric has us yearning for something special. “Help I’m Alive” is a bit heavy with electric beat but the chorus becomes addicting by the fourth listen and you remember why their tracks become classics. Emily has a solo version of the song on piano that is pretty incredible and probably better but it needed to be metri-fied to make the album.

In short, the delay between records has turned Metric into the ex-girlfriend I’ll always be in love with. We could all use this album right about now. The tides are turning and I want to ride this wave of positivity with a new Metric disc in my eardrums.

If you need another temporary fix, this October interview by Boxer Films has some cool Emily soundbytes and uses the piano version of “Help I’m Alive” as the sound track..

“They are selfish truths wrapped in blunts of allegory.” I’d smoke an Emily Haines lyric if I could.
