Brooklyn-based artist Olek’s candy-colored crocheted creations are sprinkled with elements of mystery and surprise. Viewing her work is like going to an all-in-one circus/freak show/fun house after a trip through a magic forest. She’s far out. Head over to the Bronx Blue Bedroom Project and check out the opening of her newest installation on Sunday. If Halloween weekend turned you into a tweaked-out zombie, you can contact BBBP and make an appointment. Show ends November 28th.
Here’s the direct message from Olek…
Dear current, ex- and future friends,
I, Olek, hereby cordially invite you to a vernissage of my newest crocheted balloon madness:
Plum blossom is beautiful. Blossom is temporary.
On this Sunday November 2nd, at Bronx Blue Bedroom Project; Opening reception starts at 2PM and will go until 5PM.
This new fantasyland explores my interest in creating an ephemeral skin that invites you to explore the movement, texture, and behavior it encapsulates. All of the senses are heightened as you develop new means of interacting with this shelter. Your response greatly impacts the art and the way these inflated forms move over time.
The artwork is destroyed as it is created, and created out of its own destruction. Due to the nature of this work, people wearing anything sharp or hot will be expelled by Bronx Blue Bedroom Project’s crew!
The more sluggish of you may like to know this blossom will live or rather slowly cease to exist until the room returns to its original coldness and emptiness on November 28th.
