Lately I’ve been making myself pots of Cuban coffee in the middle of the night and staying up till sunrise for no apparent reason. I wondered why our photographer Marc was still active on G-chat with me at 5 AM this morning. And then I remembered he was a maniacal pumpkin carver. He and fellow pumpkin artist Chris were up all night slashing intricate designs into squash flesh for a private haunted mansion party. The end result is more than just a party favor, it’s topical festive art. They do bad ass portraits (check out the heath ledger/joker one) but are capable of anything you can think of within reason. The pumpkins have been available at Forbidden Planet in Union Square and have been spotted at a variety of venues ranging from Two Boots to Whiskeytown.
