Plants and Animals continue their triumphant march onto the Canadian indie scene with a North American tour this fall. Their also hoping to bring home one of Canada’s newest but most coveted musical honors, The Polaris Music Prize. Started in 2006, the award is given annually to the best full-length Canadian album and includes a $20,000 cash prize. Final Fantasy brought it home in 2006 and Patrick Watson took it in ‘07. Past nominees include Arcade Fire, Feist, Miracle Fortress, Broken Social Scene, Metric, and Wolf Parade. This year’s winner will be announced on September 29th in Toronto.

Plants and Animals make the list for their debut album Parc Avenue. Released in March of 2008, the record has been highly received and has garnered praise from both indie and national media outlets. The band has played with Gnarles Barkley, The National, and Yeasayer in the past year and looks primed for continued success. They recently announced some live dates in the U.S. that will take place this fall with fellow Canucks, the Born Ruffians, Who are pretty amazing in their own right.
